Top 10 MLB Spring Training Cities

With MLB spring training fully underway, we at decided to rank the top 10 spring training destinations for fans to visit, as of 2016. In this particular case, the evaluations are based solely on the surrounding geography of the spring training cities in Florida and Arizona, as opposed to stadium experience. Check out our list, positioned from 10 to 1, and let us know what you think of our rankings.

10. Glendale, Arizona

The Dodgers and White Sox home city is a sports fans dream. Located in the western suburbs of Phoenix, Glendale is also home to the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Coyotes and the Westgate Entertainment District, a large dining, shopping and amusement venue, which features multiple sports bars.


9. Fort Myers, Florida

The Red Sox and Twins home base combines a river facing downtown with picturesque Gulf of Mexico beaches.  A major bonus of Fort Myers is its close proximity to the highly desirable Southwest Florida destinations of Naples, Sanibel Island and Capitva Island.

8. Tempe, Arizona

Located east of downtown Phoenix and south of the city of Scottsdale, the Angels headquarters combine a very centrally located geography with the vibrancy of nearby Arizona State University, the Mill Avenue downtown district and a bevy of outdoor activities, including hiking, rock-climbing, biking and lake accessibility.



7. Clearwater, Florida

The Phillies spring hub sits a few minutes east of Clearwater Beach, the spot many Floridians consider the state’s best beach.  Taking this claim a step further, TripAdviser named the stretch of sand, hotels, restaurants and shopping as the best beach in the United States. Clearwater stands 20 miles west and north of Tampa and St. Petersburg respectively. 


6. Walt Disney World Resort

The Braves prep for the season at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, located on the grounds of the iconic Walt Disney World Resort. This location provides visitors with easy access to all of the Disney attractions, like the Magic Kingdom and Epcot Center, as well as the numerous other Orlando area tourist attractions, including Universal Studios.


5. Tampa, Florida

The Yankees spring residence serves as the Grapefruit League’s most big city setting. Located across the street from Raymond James Stadium, New York’s Florida home is in close proximity to the Westshore, Ybor City, downtown and South Tampa areas of Florida’s third largest municipality.

4. Sarasota, Florida

The Orioles lay claim to what has long been considered one of The Sunshine State’s great winter destinations. Hotels, high-rises, restaurants and golf courses dot this very unique piece of Gulf of Mexico geography. The nearby haunts of Siesta Key and Longboat Key offer some of the US’ most beautiful stretches of sand.

3. Phoenix, Arizona

While the Maryvale section of the city (spring home of the Brewers) has its fair share of issues, the thriving city of Phoenix provides a multitude of dining, entertainment, cultural and outdoor activities to choose from. Central City (downtown), Central Avenue and the Camelback Corridor are among the hot spots of America’s sixth largest city.




2. Jupiter, Florida

Located 90 miles north of Miami, the Palm Beach County city of Jupiter is Cardinals and Marlins HQ. Jupiter, and the surrounding cities of Jupiter Beach and Juno Beach, are a haven for golf lovers and beach enthusiasts alike. The area is home to a number of sports luminaries including Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Joe Namath and Mike Schmidt. In addition, the ritzy enclave of Palm Beach and lively larger city of West Palm Beach are a short drive away.

The Giants, Diamondbacks and Rockies get ready to go amid the undisputed center of life in both the Phoenix metro area and the state of Arizona. Scottsdale is a mecca for fine dining, nightlife, shopping, hotels, resorts and golfing. Snowbirds and full-time residents, including a large array of current and former athletes call the municipality of 230,000 home. Scottsdale is a wonderfully unique blend of desert landscape and Western lifestyle.
