A Tiger Win At The PGA Would Be Huge For Golf

Tiger Woods 79 PGA victoriesThursday, the 2013 PGA Championship, the last of this year's major golf tournaments, tees off at Oak Hill Country Club (Rochester, New York). Phil Mickelson, who miraculously won the British Open in July, comes in as one of the favorites, along with the suddenly on fire Tiger Woods. Last week, Woods earned his 79th PGA victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (Akron, Ohio), finishing at a robust -15.

The big question for Tiger continues to focus on whether he can finally break his major championship drought. Woods has gone winless in his last 17 majors, while not winning one of the big four tournaments since capturing the 2008 U.S. Open, at Torrey Pines (La Jolla, California).

Tiger's life since the summer of '08 has involved a series of injuries and of course, maybe the most publicized divorce scandal in American history.

There is certainly excitement for the game of golf when Mickelson takes home a major, but nothing comes close to the huge jolt the sport would receive, if the both famous and infamous Woods can finally win his 15th major championship. Nobody moves the needle quite like Tiger Woods.
