The 2012 World Series Brings Together A Bevy Of Baseball Tradition

Giants six straight postseason elimination winsMonday night, the San Francisco Giants rallied from a 3-1 series deficit, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0, in Game 7 of the NLCS. The victory advanced the Giants to a 2012 World Series matchup with the Detroit Tigers.

For the Giants, this will be their 19th World Series appearance. The New York/San Francisco franchise has won six world championships, with the most recent title coming in 2010.

During the NLDS, the Giants also won three consecutive games, when facing elimination, after trailing the Cincinnati Reds 0-2.

San Francisco's six straight wins, when facing extinction, ties an MLB postseason record, previously accomplished by the 1985 Kansas City Royals.

The Tigers, on the other hand, come into the Fall Classic very well rested, as a result of a four-game series sweep of the New York Yankees.

2012 marks the Tigers 12th World Series appearance. Detroit is the proud owner of four world championships, with their last victory taking place in 1984.
