2014 World Series Presents A Bevy Of Contrasts
Tuesday night, the Kansas City Royals host the San Francisco Giants in Game 1 of the 2014 World Series. The Royals are coming off a four-game sweep of the Orioles, in the ALCS, while the Giants took out the Cardinals, in five games, during the NLCS. KC is appearing in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1985. In stark comparison, SF is looking to win their third world title in the last five years.
Game 1 features a pitching matchup of the Royals James Shields versus the Giants Madison Bumgarner.
Shields has been up and down in the playoffs, posting two no decisions and a 1-0 record, with a lofty 5.63 ERA. Bumgarner has been lights out this postseason, boasting a 2-1 record, with a 1.42 ERA.
The Royals own home field advantage in the series. Interestingly, the home field team has won each of the last five World Series.
Of course, the Giants have considerably more experience, which makes this an even more intriguing matchup.
