David Ortiz Keeping His Distance In MPLS (Video)
David Ortiz is the star designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox. Prior to joining the Red Sox, Ortiz had an up and down tenure with the Minnesota Twins, before arriving in New England in advance of the 2003 season.
Ortiz became a hero amongst the followers of Red Sox Nation, after his monumental 2004 postseason, where he won the ALCS MVP, when leading the Sox to their improbable comeback from 3-0 down against the archrival Yankees.
The Red Sox went on to beat the Cardinals in the World Series, ending the dreaded “Curse of the Bambino.”
Ortiz's Boston heroics did not end in 2004, as he led the American League in RBI during both the 2005 and 2006 seasons, while also leading the league in homeruns during that '06 campaign.
The now seven-time All-Star was again integral in Boston's 2007 world championship. The team's second in four years.
Ortiz's image took a major hit in 2009, when it was reported that he and former teammate Manny Ramirez were part of a large group of players that tested positive for performance enhancing drugs back in 2003.
Despite Ortiz's steroid revelation, he is still a pretty popular player around the country. Last week, per the above iFolloSports.com original video, Ortiz was seen outside of the Grand Hotel Minneapolis.
Some fans were calling for Ortiz to sign autographs, but on this day, he chose to ignore the yells and hang back away from the signature seekers.
