Giants & A's Only Have A 10 Percent Chance Of Coming Back
Tuesday afternoon, the Cincinnati Reds host the San Francisco Giants in Game 3 of the NLDS. The Reds own a commanding 2-0 lead, after a resounding 9-0 road victory at AT&T Park on Sunday.
All three remaining games of the series will be played in Cincinnati.
The Oakland Athletics face a similar situation, when they host the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night at the O.co Coliseum, also down 2-0. Oakland's task is slightly less daunting, since they will be the home team for Games 3, 4 and 5 of the series.
Both Bay Area teams have a very slim mathematical chance of advancing to the next round.
Since the division series was formed in 1995, of the 42 teams that have held 2-0 series leads, only four have ever gone on to lose the five-game matchup.
Those teams were the '03 Boston Red Sox, '01 New York Yankees, '99 Red Sox, and '95 Seattle Mariners.
Ironically, in both 2003 and 2001, the A's were on the losing end of a historic 2-0 collapse.
