Jaime Moyer Ready To Pitch For Colorado At Age 49
A veteran left hander gave up three runs and seven hits on Wednesday, coming off a start where he hurled four scoreless innings. This same lefty is making a strong statement to make the Colorado Rockies' opening day starting rotation, after posting a 2.77 ERA in four Cactus League starts this spring.
Nothing that unusual, except that this southpaw is Jamie Moyer, who turns 50 in November.
During last week's outing against San Francisco, Moyer threw 30 of his 45 pitches for strikes, in four perfect innings.
Moyer made his big league debut for the Cubs in 1986 and has a lifetime record of 267-204, with 2,405 strikeouts in his 628 starts. He last pitched in the Big Leagues for the Phillies in 2010
Moyer is married to the daughter of former Notre Dame coach and current ESPN analyst Digger Phelps. The Moyer's have a family of eight children. His 20-year-old son Dillon was drafted by the Twins in 2010.
