John Farrell Signing Prior To Diagnosis (Photo)

Above is an original photo of Boston Red Sox Manager John Farrell signing autographs outside of Comerica Park in Detroit. The shot was provided by iFolloSports.com Michigan correspondent Lance Martinez.

Just one week after this photo was gathered, Farrell announced that he was diagnosed with stage one lymphoma. The recently turned 53-year-old left the team on August 14 to focus on his recovery, which includes chemotherapy treatment. Fortunately, the New Jersey native's prognosis is very favorable.

After spending eight years pitching in MLB, Farrell has spent the last five seasons managing the Blue Jays in 2011 and 2012, followed by the Sox from 2013 forward. Farrell led Boston to a 2013 World Series victory over the Cardinals.

Farrell hopes to return to Boston's bench next season.
