Nats Looking To End Longtime Franchise & DC Droughts

Nationals last playoff appearance 1981 Going into Friday's game versus the Miami Marlins, the Washington Nationals own a 49-34 record, leading the National League East by four games over the Atlanta Braves.

If the Nationals are able to win their division, or earn a wild card spot, it would be the team's first playoff appearance since 1981, when the franchise was known as the Montreal Expos. This 20-season period is the longest current drought among the four major North American sports leagues.

A Nats postseason appearance would also represent the first time our nation's capital would witness October baseball since the 1933 World Series, when the former Washington Senators (currently the Minnesota Twins) lost to the New York Giants (now the San Francisco Giants) 4-1.
