Shohei Ohtani’s arrival at LA’s Tempe, Arizona facility included meeting the media, along with some work as both a pitcher and hitter.

Over the course of his five-year career in the Nippon Professional Baseball league, the 23-year-old went 42-15 as a pitcher, with a 2.52 ERA. In the batter’s box, Ohtani hit .286, with 48 HR and 166 RBI, during this stretch.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia primarily plans to use the three-time Japanese All-Star as a pitcher, with the option to employ his hitting skills on a more limited basis.
