Texas Rangers Are Happy To Have Met Yu
Yu Darvish is a right-handed pitcher from Osaka, who starred for Team Japan in the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
In 2011, Darvish won 18 games for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, where he was earning more than $6 million in annual salary.
During the offseason, the two-time defending American League champion Texas Rangers signed him to a six-year/$111.7 million contract, which included a $51 million posting fee.
Many baseball experts questioned the amount the Rangers paid for the 25-year-old hurler. If anything, Darvish is proving to be a bargain.
In April, he went 4-0 with an ERA of 2.18, while striking out 33 hitters in only 33 innings. Darvish was named the AL Rookie of the Month for his efforts.
The Rangers went 17-6 during the season's first month and seem very happy with their new acquisition.
