Tigers On The Verge Of Accomplishing A Franchise First

Coming off a division title and an ALCS appearance in 2011, the Detroit Tigers entered the 2012 season with very high expectations, especially after the signing of All-Star first baseman Prince Fielder. After initially struggling, the Tigers currently possess a two-game lead over the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central division, with only six games left.

If the Tigers make a return trip to the playoffs, it will represent a rare feat in the long history of the team.

The last time the Tigers franchise played in back-to-back postseasons was all the way back in 1934 and 1935.

In 1935, Detroit defeated the Chicago Cubs in the World Series.

This season, the Tigers hope to repeat a little history, while looking to bring Detroit its first baseball championship since 1984.
