Will Yankee Clapper Incident Reignite The NY/BOS Rivalry?

John Lackey drills Francisco CervelliTuesday, catcher Francisco Cervelli hit a homerun off John Lackey in the fifth inning of a Yankees 5-2 defeat of Boston in Beantown. Lefty CC Sabathia won his first game against the Red Sox this season, after four losses. Boston left a staggering 16 men on base.

When Cervelli crossed home plate after the fifth inning blast, he clapped his hands together, which was not a big deal to anyone except Lackey. So, when New York's number nine hitter came to the plate in the seventh, Lackey drilled Cervelli in the back.

Of course, this triggered one of those senseless bench and bullpen-clearing hoo-hahs, which resulted in the ejection of New York's pitching coach Larry Rothschild, who accused Lackey of intentionally hitting Cervelli.

Check out the photos of the incident.

Wednesday's game went off without incident, but the Yanks are sure to retaliate sooner or later.
