Zack Greinke Looks Like A College Kid In Person
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Zack Grienke is as formidable of a hurler as there is in Major League Baseball. The 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner (while with the Royals) consistently reaches the mid 90's with his fastball, while at the same time possessing one of the game's very best sliders.
The 28-year-old free agent to be is poised to cash in big this offseason, potentially commanding a multi-year contract, worth well into the $100 million range.
In other words, Grienke is very much a grown man when he picks up the baseball and takes to the mound.
The funny thing about this rather obvious assertion involves the notion that Grienke looks like a far younger man when encountered away from the ballpark, as opposed to when seen on a television screen.
Wednesday, I happened to walk right past the Orlando native at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel, in the Century City section of Los Angeles. Milwaukee was in LA for a four-game series versus the Dodgers.
Grienke, dressed in jeans and a collared shirt, could easily have passed for a well built freshman or sophomore at nearby UCLA. The college student look was further enhanced by the appearance of a laptop computer positioned underneath the arm of the righty flame thrower.
Our guess is that Grienke probably gets carded almost everywhere he goes.
In 2012, Greinke is slated to earn $13.5 million. He also happens to be married to a former Dallas Cowboy cheerleader.
So, in truth, Zack Greinke's youthful look appears to not have held him back one iota in life, whether it be in his professional or personal life.
