Chris Webber Meeting Fans On Return Trip To Ann Arbor | Video
Lance Martinez of My Detroit Sports sent over this original video of retired NBA star and University of Michigan Fab Five member Chris Webber interacting with fans. This scene took place last month prior to a Michigan vs. Penn State football game at Michigan Stadium, in Ann Arbor (MI).
Webber, the best and most heralded Fab Five player, led the Wolverines to the 1992 and 1993 NCAA Championship games, with the team coming up short in both contests. The ’93 final is best remembered for Webber’s infamous timeout signal, late in their battle against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Detroit native’s days in Ann Arbor would later become tarnished, after a series of investigations detailed his role in receiving payoffs and gifts from disgraced Michigan booster Ed Martin. The long and sorted case resulted in the NCAA leveling significant sanctions against the program in 2003.
Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh invited Webber to perform the coin toss for the previously mentioned game. This was the now 45-year-old’s first appearance back at his alma mater since the school and Fab Five team ran amuck with the NCAA, during the early 2000’s.
