Erik Spoelstra did it the Unconventional Way

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was the starting point guard for the University of Portland Pilots of the West Coast Conference from 1988-1992. Spoelstra would get his start in the NBA, working as video coordinator for the Heat beginning in 1995. The 40-year-old would later serve in multiple roles on the team's coaching and scouting staffs, before being named head coach in 2008.
