Getting To Know New Lakers GM Rob Pelinka | Video
Last week, the Los Angeles Lakers formerly announced the hiring of sports agent Rob Pelinka as the franchise’s general manager. Pelinka will work directly under basketball legend Magic Johnson, who now serves as LA’s President of Basketball Operations.
Prior to becoming a high-powered NBA executive, Pelinka led LA based Landmark Sports Agency, amid representing an impressive stable of NBA talent, including the likes of Kobe Bryant, James Harden, Chris Bosh and Andre Iguodala. All told, Pelinka’s agency has negotiated roughly $400 million in salary.
The 47-year-old grew up in the affluent Chicago suburb of Lake Forest, Illinois. From there, he rode the bench for the Michigan Wolverines, during a historic period in the school’s history. Pelinka was a part of the program’s 1989 national championship team, while also being a member of the Fab Five squads that finished national runner-up in both 1992 and 1993.
Pelinka became a sports agent upon graduating from the University of Michigan law school.
