iFolloSports.com NBA Finals Thoughts: Game 1
Thursday night, the Cavaliers and Warriors tipoff the 2017 NBA Finals in Oakland. This matchup is what basketball fans have been craving since last July 4,, the day Kevin Durant signed with Golden State. This is the first time that two teams have met three consecutive times in the finals, with the franchises splitting each of the previous two meetings. 2017 also represents LeBron James’ astounding seventh straight trip to the finals.
Thanks to the addition of Durant, this year’s roster edge favors the Warriors, even though GSW won seven less games than their record 73 wins of last season. Last year’s quest for the regular season wins record would end up wearing the Warriors down, particularly as the ’16 finals extended to a deciding Game 7. With a now healthy roster, combined with a non suspended Draymond Green, it will be hard for the Cavaliers to slow down the Warriors big four players enough to win four out of seven games.
One Cavs related nugget to consider. If LeBron is able to win his fourth NBA title (two each with the Cavs and Heat), in eight total finals appearances, that distinction would most certainly amplify the now frequent comparisons to Michael Jordan.
