Lakers & Celtics uniting in Boston?

Lakers & Celtics Deval Patrick fundraiser 2010 NBA FinalsMassachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is literally cashing in on the Celtics appearance in the NBA Finals. Saturday, the day before the C's and Lakers battle in Game 5 of the series, the Democrat will attend a gala fundraiser at the Hotel Commonwealth. The event takes place at 6:00 PM ET.

NBA luminaries expected include Boston's sworn enemy, Lakers legend Magic Johnson, Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca, coach Doc Rivers and guard Ray Allen.

Tickets for the affair range from $100-$500. Passes to an exclusive pre-reception are a more costly $1,500 per person.

Like many incumbents during this election cycle, Patrick has a challenging road to victory in the Bay State.  Despite his standing with the electorate, Patrick continues to perform well in the area of fundraising.  Aligning his campaign with the deep pockets of the NBA is certainly a good way to continue this trend.

Gov. Patrick's camp may seek credit for uniting historically bitter rivals around a common cause.  Unfortunately, this may not be the type of bi-partisanship Massachusetts voters are looking for.
