The Lakers New Practice Facility Has It All (Video)
In 2000, the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings opened the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California, five minutes south of Los Angeles International Airport. The joint practice and headquarter facility has served as the home base for five NBA titles and two Stanley Cup championships. While the multiple ice rinks and lavish training spaces continue to serve the Kings well, the Lakers have simply outgrown their portion of the complex.
This summer, the Lakers will move into a brand new $80 million headquarters, one block from the current location. The 120,000-square-foot UCLA Health Training Center will play host to the entire Lakers and D-Fenders (D-League Affiliate) operation, while providing players and coaches with a fully state-of-the-art training environment.
In addition to expanding beyond one practice court and increasing the size and scope of both workout and recuperation areas, the Lakers will house their entire basketball and business operation under one roof.
