Nets New Practice Facility Has A Very Brooklyn Feel (Photos)
The Brooklyn Nets are now officially 100 percent residents of New York City’s most populated borough. Since moving from New Jersey to Brooklyn in 2012, the franchise had still conducted practice at the PNY Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, near their former home arenas in East Rutherford and more recently Newark. That all changed this week when the team debuted the Hospital for Special Surgery Training Center, a $50 million team headquarters located in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood.
The 70,000-square-foot complex, built on the 8th floor and rooftop of a building in the Industry City complex, stands just 3 miles south of Barclays Center and 4 miles across the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel from Lower Manhattan.
With the buildings unique geography in mind, the facility’s 2 full basketball courts are surrounded by 16-foot windows, which provide views of Brooklyn, the Manhattan skyline and New Jersey. In addition to housing beautiful locker-room, medical and fitness areas, Nets players have access to a 3,000-square-foot lounge.
The entire Nets operation, including basketball and business operations will be housed in the very unique space.
