Nets On The Verge Of Becoming 100% Residents Of Brooklyn
Now in their second season as residents of the borough of Brooklyn, the former New Jersey Nets have maintained a significant footprint in the Garden State, with the team still conducting practices at the PNY Center, in East Rutherford, a short Eli Manning pass from MetLife Stadium. But, beginning in the Fall of 2015, it looks as if the Nets' association with New York City's most populous borough will become whole.
Per recent reports in the New York Times and NetsDaily, the Nets have tentatively agreed to construct team training and front office facilities, on the top floors of one of the 16 buildings that encompass the Industry City complex, located at 148 39th Street, in the Sunset Park neighborhood. The Nets administrative offices are currently housed at Brooklyn's 15 MetroTech Center office building, situated one mile north of Barclays Center.
Presently, the Nets' practice and game facilities are separated by a 16-mile drive, which includes having to navigate through Manhattan traffic. By comparison, the new headquarters will sit a mere three miles from the arena.
In addition to being the new basketball and business operational home of the Nets, the building will also reportedly be the site of a Nets' team store, located at street level.
