Fan Photo Submission: Steve Fisher and Clem Haskins

Fan Photo With Steve Fisher An iFolloSports.com reader sent along these photos of a young Minnesota Golden Gophers fan with former Michigan and San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher (upper right), along with a separate look at former Minnesota head man Clem Haskins (below).

Both shots were gathered in the lobby of the Hilton Minneapolis, during last weekend’s Final Four. The Hilton and nearby Minneapolis Convention Center were the host sites for the annual National Association of Basketball Coaches Convention.

Fisher spent 1989 through 1997 in Ann Arbor (MI), winning a national title as an interim coach in 1989, followed by consecutive trips to the championship game in both 1992 and 1993, courtesy of the legendary group of players known as the Fab Five.

After leaving Michigan (in the wake of the notorious Ed Martin scandal) Fisher landed on his feet at San Diego State, leading the Aztecs to a 386-209 record, during 18 seasons in Southern California.

Haskins coached the Gophers from 1986 through 1999, guiding the Big Ten school to six NCAA Tournament appearances and two NIT titles. Haskins’ undisputed highlight of his Minnesota tenure occurred during the 1996-1997 season, when he led the program to both the Big Ten championship and a Final Four appearance.

Like Fisher at Michigan, Haskins left Minnesota amid controversy, thanks to a major academic fraud scandal that came to light in 1999.
