Jalen Brunson and His NBA Lifer Father Rick Brunson

Villanova Star Jalen Brunson and His NBA Lifer Father Rick BrunsonSenior guard Jalen Brunson is the undisputed leader of the high-flying Villanova Wildcats, a team that is seeking its second national title in three years. In Sunday’s Elite 8 triumph over Texas Tech, Brunson tallied 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals, in his team’s 71-59 win.

Amid posting 19.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, during his final season with the Wildcats, the former Illinois Mr. Basketball has already earned Sporting News and Big East Player of the Year honors, with even more accolades likely on the horizon.

Jalen Brunson is the son of basketball lifer Rick Brunson, who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves. After a stellar career at Temple, Rick played portions of three seasons in the now defunct Continental Basketball Association, before spending eight seasons bouncing around the NBA with eight different teams. Since retiring, the now 45-year-old has worked as an assistant coach with four NBA teams and a college squad.

The guy has lived in a lot of different places.

Mike Grenier from the Salem News (MA) provides further background on this very unique father/son relationship, along with how special it is for Jalen to have his dad watch some NCAA games in person, despite his crazy Timberwolves travel schedule.
