Odds Of A Bowl Game Rematch Win Not On LSU's Side In BCS Game

Only 6 of 19 teams have won regular season bowl rematchMonday night, SEC rivals LSU and Alabama play for the BCS National Championship in New Orleans. This game is a rematch of LSU's 9-6 overtime victory over Bama, last November in Tuscaloosa.

This will be the first SEC rematch in a bowl game since the 1960 Sugar Bowl, when LSU lost to Mississippi 21-0, after beating them in regular season play.

Winning the regular season game has not often translated into victory in a bowl rematch later that season.

On the 19 occasions when a regular season matchup has been replayed in a bowl game, only six times has the regular season winner won the second game.

In a piece of good news for Les Miles' team, Monday's game will be the third consecutive BCS National Championship Game played in New Orleans that will involve the instate LSU Tigers. LSU won the previous two games, beating Oklahoma in 2004 and Ohio State in 2008.
