Stanford's & Wisconsin's Rose Bowl Week In LA (Videos & Photos)

Stanford's & Wisconsin's Rose Bowl Week In LA (Videos & Photos)Tuesday, the Stanford Cardinal will take on the Wisconsin Badgers, in the 2013 Rose Bowl presented by Vizio. As has been the case in the 98 previous occurrences of this game, “The Granddaddy of Them All” will be played at Pasadena's venerable Rose Bowl stadium, located 11 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The Pac-12 champion Cardinal will be appearing in the classic New Year's Day event for the first time since 2000, when ironically, their opponent was these very same Badgers. In total, Tuesday will mark the Palo Alto (CA) based institution's twelfth postseason trip to Pasadena, with eight of its appearances taking place between 1925 and 1952.

Quite remarkably, Wisconsin will be participating in its third consecutive Rose Bowl game and sixth since 1994. The Madison (WI) based university is seeking its first victory since defeating the Cardinal in the previously mentioned 2000 contest.

During the respective schools' time in Southern California, both squads are conducting practice at the Home Depot Center in Carson (CA). The multipurpose athletic facility (home to MLS's LA Galaxy & Chivas USA, as well as numerous Olympic/national training facilities) is situated 22 miles south of the Century City neighborhood of LA's Westside and 14 miles south of downtown LA

While spending very few holiday seasons in the LA area, over the last 40 or so years, Stanford has suddenly become very familiar with taking the field in BCS bowl games. Thanks in large measure to former head coach/current 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, Indianapolis Colts rookie sensation Andrew Luck and current head coach David Shaw, this upcoming January 1 game will serve as the team's third consecutive stop through BCS land (2011 – Orange, 2012 – Fiesta).

Below is original video of David Shaw's Stanford program arriving at the Home Depot Center (via customized Rose Bowl team charter buses), prior to the beginning of Friday's two-hour open practice. Check out Coach Shaw exiting the bus at the beginning of the video, followed by the entirety of his team shortly after.

A few minutes after the conclusion of this scene, Shaw was met by ESPN's Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit, with the trio making their way to a private area for a scheduled meeting.

While all of this activity was taking place, the Badgers were conducting a private workout, on a secluded back field of the Home Depot complex. Wisconsin fans can take a look at original video, from one year ago, showing current interim coach Barry Alvarez and Seattle Seahawks rookie phenom Russell Wilson (as well as several other Badgers) walking up the very same red carpet pathway, shown in the above Stanford video. This LA for New Year's routine has become very familiar for the multi-time Big Ten champs from “Madtown.”
