The Arizona Cardinals Love The Great Indoors During Training Camp | Video
Tuesday, the high temperature in the Phoenix metro area is forecast to be 104 degrees.
With crazy hot weather being the norm, during the summer months in the Arizona desert, the Cardinals basically have two options for training camp. Hold the gathering in the cooler parts of Northern Arizona (trained from 1988 through 2012 in Flagstaff) or conduct their business within the air-conditioned confines of State Farm Stadium. With this in mind, from July 25 through August 17, the NFC West franchise is holding practice inside their 63,000-seat home venue.
Formerly known as University of Phoenix Stadium, the 13-year-old building sits in the West Valley city of Glendale, 14 miles northwest of downtown Phoenix and 28 miles northwest of the club’s Tempe (AZ) practice facility and team headquarters.
Despite coming equipped within an indoor practice bubble, the Cardinals’ Tempe HQ is not designed to host the number of players and fans that exist throughout the duration of an NFL training camp. As a result, their stadium stands as the team’s lone local option.
During camp, the Cards utilize both their home ballpark, as well as the neighboring Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa, where the squad gets their rest and conducts many of its off the field activities.
Below is a recap of the first week of practice.
