Chargers Agree To Move To LA & Stay In San Diego

Just when you think the NFL to LA saga could not get any weirder, the San Diego Chargers upped the ante Friday when simultaneously agreeing in principle to join the Rams at Stan Kroenke’s future palace in Inglewood, while announcing plans to remain in San Diego for at least the 2016 season.

With an agreed upon deal to relocate to Los Angeles in hand, San Diego owner Dean Spanos hopes this highly significant piece of leverage will force both city leaders and voters to approve funding for a long sought-after new stadium in California’s southern most big city. The team has until January of 2017 to make an ultimate decision on whether to stay put in San Diego, or head 120 miles north to LA.

Kevin Acee and David Garrick of The San Diego Union-Tribune provide additional insight into this very strange turn of events.
