A Look At Case Keenum & Jared Goff Vying To Be The Rams QB (Videos)

Case Keenum At Rams Training CampAs the Rams prepare to kickoff the franchise’s regular season return to Los Angeles, the team’s current QB depth chart features a placeholder, followed by what the club hopes is a franchise level signal caller.

Current starter Case Keenum threw for 19,217 yards and 155 TD during his college career at the University of Houston. Both numbers represent all-time NCAA records. Despite his incredible success, Keenum went undrafted in 2012, instead signing a free agent contract with the nearby Texans. Remarkably, the 28-year-old’s NFL career has involved two stints with Houston and now two stints with STL/LA. The Abilene, Texas native has appeared in 16 total games, throwing 15 TD passes, with 9 INT.

Despite his journeyman résumé, Keenum’s experience behind center has put him in position to be the initial leading man during the Rams return to Hollywood.

Jared Goff, the first overall selection in the ’16 NFL Draft, has struggled during his first preseason, completing just 16 of 33 passes, with 1 TD and 1 INT. Making matters worse, the rookie bruised his tailbone in last weekend’s loss to the Broncos, but X-rays were negative. Goff is the Pac-12’s single season passing yards (4,719) and TD’s thrown (43) record holder, while sitting third and fourth all-time in those respective categories in Pac-12 history. The Rams gave up a boatload of draft picks to move up and select Goff, so he is definitely the man of the future in LA. But, for now, he will have to sit back and watch Keenum take the reigns of the offense.
