Playoffs Begin Without Cowboys & Raiders Once Again

Playoffs Begin Without Cowboys & Raiders Once AgainAs we look ahead to this weekend's NFL playoff matchups, it is worth noting the absence of the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders.

The two old foes were perennial contenders during the initial 35 years of the Super Bowl era, winning eight championships (five by the Cowboys).  However, both iconic franchises have experienced lean times of late.

Since winning the Super Bowl in 1996, Dallas has won only one playoff game in the past 15 years, with Jerry Jones' team recording only a 1-8 postseason record during that period.

Oakland has failed to even make the playoffs in the last nine years, despite playing in the notably weak AFC West.

These teams are just too talented to fail like this year after year.
