Ponder & Kalil Equals The Vikings Future (Video)
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder is entering his second NFL season and is looking to improve on what turned out to be an up and down rookie campaign. The 2011 first round pick out of Florida State was sacked 30 times last season, while playing from behind in most games, after being inserted into the starting lineup prior to Week 7 versus the Green Bay Packers. As a result, it was really hard for him to establish himself amid one of the worst seasons in Vikings history.
This is a very important year for Ponder, as the Vikings hope to see the 24-year-old make enough strides to solidify him as the team's undisputed quarterback of the future.
Here is iFolloSports.com original video of the Dallas native walking off the field, with many of his offensive teammates, shortly after the conclusion of Monday morning's training camp walk-through at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Also shown in the video is the team's fourth overall pick out of USC, highly touted left tackle Matt Kalil. Kalil was brought in to fix a very shaky offensive line and to protect Ponder's blind side. The addition of Kalil should make life considerably easier for Ponder, in the days and weeks ahead.
In the video, Kalil is shown talking to third year running back and Stanford University alum Toby Gerhart. Kalil and Gerhart have much in common, as both men grew up in the neighboring Southern California cities of Corona and Norco respectively. In addition, both guys played their college ball in the now Pac-12.
These three players, particular Ponder and Kali, will be instrumental in the Vikings' quest to rise from last place to a postseason contender.
