Bruins & Blackhawks Have Been Down This Path Before

Stanley Cup Game 5 winner goes on to win 68% of the time when tied 2-2Monday night, the Boston Bruins host the Chicago Blackhawks, in Game 6 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final. The underdog Bruins had a 2-1 series lead, but now face elimination after losing the last two games of the series. Boston now finds themselves down 3-2. Blackhawks star right wing Patrick Kane scored two goals in the pivotal Game 5.

This matchup, which features franchises that have won two of the last four Stanley Cups, has been a very entertaining and close finals, with three of the first five contests needing to be settled in overtime. NHL teams that win Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, when the series is tied 2-2, go on to win it all 68 percent of the time.

The Bruins can take some comfort in knowing that twice in the past five seasons, teams in the same spot have come back to win both Games 6  and 7. Just two years ago, the Bruins were one of those teams, when they came from behind to stun the Vancouver Canucks.
