Entertainer Jay White At Winter Classic (Photos)
For the past 25 years, Jay White has performed more than 9,000 shows recreating the legendary Neil Diamond. Having been born near Toronto and raised in Detroit, Jay has enjoyed a lifelong love of hockey, always seeing himself as an equal supporter of the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. Jay's love of the Red Wings has been handsomely rewarded, thanks to the team's four Stanley Cup victories in the last 17 years. Despite Detroit's success, Jay still holds onto hope for the Maple Leafs, who amazingly have not won a Cup since 1967.
On New Year's Day, Jay and close friend Alan Pelgus attended the 2014 NHL Winter Classic, where Detroit and Toronto took to the ice at the beautiful "Big House," on the University of Michigan campus. Alan snagged a couple of good seats (about half way up), towards the corner of the stadium. The snow was blowing, the temps were freezing (about 10 degrees) and the hot chocolate was selling fast, but it was an experience the two will never forget. What a thrill it was to be a part of the largest attendance ever recorded at a hockey game (105,491).
In addition to the records set in the stadium, the 2014 NHL Winter Classic was the most watched regular season game in North American history (more than 8 million viewers in the US and Canada).
Tied at the end of regulation and overtime, it all came down to a shootout! The men weren't sure who to root for, but either way, it's a win-win. Since the game was played near Detroit, a decision was made to cheer for the Wings.
The Wings lost, but it's OK, because the Leafs WON!
Below are a few pictures from the spectacular event.
