Getting To A Game 6 Is An Accomplishment For The Devils
By Ryan Rapoport
Monday night, the Los Angeles Kings host the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals. The Kings owned a commanding 3-0 lead in the series, before losing Games 4 and 5.
With the Kings possessing a nearly insurmountable advantage, it seemed almost certain that LA would sweep the Devils or at worst win the cup in five games.
As a result of their two-game winning streak, the Devils are now just the third team in NHL history to extend the Stanley Cup Finals to a sixth game, after being down 0-3.
New Jersey is the first team to accomplish this feat since 1945.
The odds are still very much against the Devils, as only the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs have rebounded from a 0-3 hole to win the Stanley Cup.
