Photos of the Packers & Steelers Super Bowl bases of operation
Super Bowl XLV will be played Sunday night at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Since arriving in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on Monday, both the Packers and Steelers have set up bases of operation on different sides of this massive metropolitan landscape. These predetermined lodging and practice venues are currently serving as the home away from home for these legendary franchises. While the glitz and glamour of Jerry Jones' 3 million square foot palace will host the championship battle, the preparation leading up to the contest will be held at the facilities chronicled below.
The Green Bay Packers are staying at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas. This property is located 12 miles north of Cowboys Stadium and 11 miles northwest of Downtown Dallas. Irving is the home of Valley Ranch, the Dallas Cowboys training facility. The city hosted Cowboys home games at legendary Texas Stadium from 1971-2008.
The Packers were originally scheduled to practice on the snowy fields of Southern Methodist University, located 12 miles east of the Omni.
Due to the winter blast that has savaged North Texas, the team was forced to move down the street to the indoor practice facility at ritzy Highland Park High School.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are sleeping at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel, located in Downtown Fort Worth, Texas. This facility is located 14 miles west of Cowboys Stadium and 28 miles west of the Packers hotel.
Downtown Fort Worth and Downtown Dallas are separated by 30 miles along the Tom Landry Freeway.
The Steelers are practicing at Texas Christian University, located in Fort Worth, five miles south of the city's downtown. The winter storm caused the Steelers to move their workouts to the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility, on the campus of TCU.
