NBC's Not So Authentic Olympic Sound Effect

NBC pre-recorded sound at Olympic rowingWhen you watch Olympic rowing, you can hear the sound of the oars crashing into the water. At least that's what NBC wants you to think.

The network put chase boats into the River Thames to get better camera shots of the rowers, but the loud noise of the boats drowned out all of the other sounds. So, NBC replaced their live audio with a pre-recorded sound track of rowing and that is what we are hearing.

In addition to rowing, NBC is employing 600 sound technicians to enhance the audio at sports such as archery and diving in London.
