Olympic Preview Part 3: McDonalds Supersizes Olympic Park Dining
McDonalds, an official sponsor of London 2012, will open their largest store in the world at the city's Olympic Park. The supersized venue is designed to seat more than 1,500 eaters.
The Chicago area-based sponsor, which will also have eateries in the athlete's village and the main press center, plans to serve more than 50,000 Big Macs during the Games.
The food venues are all temporary, built only for the 17-day event. All of the structures are scheduled to be dismantled at the end of August, with the furniture and fittings set to be reused in other McDonalds around England.
McDonald's says they will serve 1.7 million customers during the Olympics, with the food choices looking largely identical to the fast food giant's fare anywhere else in the world.
It will be interesting to see how much of the fast food is consumed by actual Olympians, in the athlete's village venue.
