Details On A Philippines Stiletto Foot Race

Tour De Takong in Marikina, PhilippinesMarikina is a suburb east of Manila, which also happens to be the center of the country's shoe manufacturing industry. The city holds an annual event to celebrate the flourishing shoe business, a 500-meter race through the city center, with runners required to wear stiletto heels at least three inches high.

Last Friday, more than 100 racers participated in the "Tour De Takong" or stiletto race. The competition included separate divisions for men and women, for safety reasons. Winners were awarded a cash prize of 10,000 pesos ($240), while second placers won 7,000 pesos ($170), with third earning 5,000 pesos ($120).

Many runners wore colorful costumes (with matching heels) as there were also cash prizes for best costumes or "shoeperstar" awards.
