Las Vegas Busts In Olympic Bid

Las Vegas bids for 2020 Summer OlympicsWhenever the International Olympic Committee encourages the USA to bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, the USOC politely but firmly declines. The USOC is on record saying that it will not bid for a future Olympic Games until a solution to the spat over revenue sharing with the IOC has been solved.

Despite the USOC's stance, civic leaders in Las Vegas made the decision to roll the dice anyway with the IOC.

Vegas representatives wrote a letter to the international body, copying the USOC, noting that they were all in. It has been reported internationally that the IOC has already denied this approach.

The problem is that the Las Vegas application HAD to be supported by their national Olympic committee, which it wasn't. Bid applications were due by September 1, with cities including: Rome, Madrid, Tokyo, and Doha bidding legally.  Viva Las Vegas anyhow.
