The Luxury Ship Housing USA Basketball In Rio (Photos)
While the vast majority of the more than 11,000 athletes competing in the 2016 Summer Olympics will be forced to endure the questionable conditions associated with the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Village, the United States men’s and women’s basketball teams will have no such lodging drama to deal with.
During the duration of the Rio games, both squads will call a luxury cruise ship home. Silversea Cruises’ Silver Cloud provides the players, coaches and support staffs with a bevy of luxuries, while docked in Rio’s Maua Pier. The pier’s location sits 33 KM (20 miles) from Carioca Arena 1, the men’s game venue and 32 KM (19 miles) from the Youth Arena, the women’s game site.
