Adventurous Rowers Dare To Bare For A Good Cause

Row for Freedom rowing nudeFive British women smashed the existing world record by rowing across the Atlantic Ocean in a boat of five rowers in just 45 days (previous record was 49 days). They completed their extreme endurance by discovering the clandestine tactic of rowing nude.

"We spent a lot of time rowing naked because when the sea water gets inside your clothes it increases friction against your skin which can cause sores," said Debbie Beadle, skipper of the Row for Freedom team

The five women accomplished the feat to raise money for a charity which acquires funds for anti-human trafficking causes. Beadle added that their motivation to accomplish something notable for a worthy cause far outweighed any inhibitions the crew had about nudity.

In addition to the team's clothing issues, other major challenges included the presence of 30 foot waves, which contributed to extreme bouts of sea sickness. The crew also dealt with ongoing mechanical problems involving the boat's steering system and water making machine.

The quintet covered the 2,600 mile journey, which follows the route used by slave ships in the eighteenth century, from the Canary Islands to Barbados.

All five are back at their day jobs, but are already planning another fundraiser for next year. However, this time they promise to keep their clothes on.
