Sunday, the United States Women’s National Team captured its second consecutive World Cup, courtesy of a 2-0 shutout of the Netherlands, at Lyon, France. Captain Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle provided the goals, amid a contest that was viewed by an average of nearly 16 million people, with peak viewership coming in at more than 19 million Americans.
24 hours after the USWNT’s historic triumph, the squad returned to American soil, embarking on a 10-hour flight from Lyon to New York City.
Below and in the upper right are exclusive looks at Rapinoe and Alex Morgan entering The Wagner at Battery Park hotel, located on the very southern tip of Lower Manhattan.
The second series of photos showcases a pair of fans posing with the aforementioned superstars, as well as the highly sought-after trophy.
Wednesday, the World Cup champs will be honored with a tickertape parade down New York’s famed “Canyon of Hero’s.” Immediately after, Rapinoe, Morgan and company board a plane for a six-hour flight to Los Angeles, with the team then scheduled to make an appearance at that evening’s ESPY Awards.
