Super Bowl 50 Team, Media, NFL & Fan Bases Of Operation

San Francisco & San Jose Super Bowl InfoFor the first time in 31 years, the San Francisco Bay Area will play host to America’s grandest sporting event, with Super Bowl 50 kicking off Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The most unique aspect of the 2016 version of the big game involves how spread out the event’s logistical setup will be. While the game and its participants are based near San Jose, the media and fans will be situated an hour drive north in downtown San Francisco.

Below is a look at the very decentralized nature of the week’s activity.

Santa Clara/San Jose Portion

Stadium

2-year-old Levi’s Stadium is located in the south Bay Area city of Santa Clara, 43 miles south of downtown San Francisco and 8 miles north of downtown San Jose. Though the 49ers have only called this venue home for 2 seasons, the franchise’s headquarters/practice facility has sat adjacent to the current stadium location since 1988.

 

Carolina Panthers Hotel & Practice Site

The NFC champs are based at the San Jose Marriott, located at 301 S. Market Street, in downtown San Jose.

Cam Newton and company will conduct practice at the San Jose State football complex, 2 miles southeast of the Marriott. The SJSU football facilities sit separate from the main university campus, which is found 4 blocks east of the hotel.

 

Denver Broncos Hotel & Practice Site

The AFC champs are getting their rest at the Santa Clara Marriott, located at 2700 Mission College Blvd, 1 mile south of Levi’s Stadium.

Peyton Manning and his teammates will prepare at the Stanford University football facility, 12 miles north of the hotel. in Palo Alto. 

 

Media Day

The Super Bowl’s annual media day extravaganza will take place Monday night at the SAP Arena (Sharks home arena), just outside downtown San Jose. The event, which normally occurs on Tuesday, is being rebranded this year as Super Bowl Opening Night fueled By Gatorade.

The media work areas and legendary radio row is housed in the west section of the Moscone Center (San Francisco convention center), at 747 Howard Street.

 

Network Broadcast Locations

ESPN – Marina Green in San Francisco’s Marina District. The picturesque park rests alongside San Francisco Bay, while providing a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge. ESPN will also broadcast from PIER 39, the famous Fisherman's Wharf shopping and dining destination.

The outdoor fan village occurs at Justin Herman Plaza, located in the city’s financial district, at the intersection of Market Street and the Embarcadero.
