WWE SummerSlam Recap & Analysis

WWE SumemrslamPro wrestling pay-per-view cards usual contain eight or more compelling matches, but Sunday night at SummerSlam in Los Angeles, the WWE essentially promoted a one match event, before a sellout crowd at the Staples Center.

After a long running feud with CM Punk, John Cena lost the epic main event, which ended in a dubious three count, even though Cena's leg was clearly on the ropes.

Unfortunately for Cena, guest referee Triple H did not see the leg position and counted the 1-2-3.

CM Punk then lost the WWE championship to Alberto Del Rio, shortly after Punk's disputed win over Cena. This match’s outcome involved illegal interference by wrestling veteran Kevin Nash.

In other featured matches, Randy Orton captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt by pinning Christian, after hitting him with a kendo stick and throwing him through a garbage can.

Kelly Kelly retained her Diva's championship by virtue of a Sunset Flip over Beth Phoenix.

Prior to winning the title belt, Del Rio, The Miz and R-Truth lost to the team of Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio and John Morrison.
